Betrayal cuts deep. Mason Brown knew it better than anyone.
Fresh from discovering his wife's affair with their gardener, rage and heartbreak wrestled inside him. Standing in their office, he saw Stacy, the new maid, quietly organizing files.
Without thinking, without permission, he kissed her.
“Here’s my new girlfriend,” Mason spat venomously at his wife, who simply rolled her eyes and left.
Stacy slapped him hard.
“Even if you are my boss, that was way out of line,” she said, her voice trembling between anger and something softer—pity.
Ashamed, Mason whispered, “I’m sorry. I just...wanted to hurt her.”
An awkward silence.
Then Stacy smirked.
“There’s a company party tonight, right? Add $500 to my salary...I’ll be your date.”
“Deal,” he said, a sad smile cracking across his tired face.
“And $300 extra...for a kiss,” she teased, making his chest tighten with something unfamiliar: hope.
The Night of Reckoning
As Mason waited near the entrance, Stacy descended the office stairs like a queen.
A navy satin dress clung to her curves, her hair soft waves of gold.
He could barely breathe.
“You look...amazing.”
She shrugged, playful.
“I clean up nice.”
Inside, whispers followed them like shadows. Mason's ex-wife glared daggers...and then laughed.
“Sold my shares to your competitor,” she sneered.
“Good luck surviving.”
Mason gritted his teeth, but Stacy squeezed his hand.
“Let’s give them a show.”
Truth Unfolds
Later, in the parking lot, Stacy returned, her face pale.
“Your ex...she's kissing the gardener again.”
Mason burst out laughing—years of anger, betrayal, pain dissolving into pure absurdity.
Meanwhile, Stacy hesitated.
“There’s...one more thing.”
“What?” he asked.
She blushed deeply.
“I’m pregnant. It’s yours.”
His knees buckled slightly.
“Is this another joke?”
Her eyes shimmered, filled with real fear.
“No. I thought you knew...”
Silence. The world shrank to the small space between them.
Second Chances
As the crowd gathered, Mason took the mic.
“I’m buying back my shares. And...I'm starting over.”
The room erupted in applause.
Later, Mason turned to Stacy, pulling her gently into his arms.
“This time,” he said softly, “the kiss is free.”
She leaned in, whispering against his lips,
“Only if you promise...to never let me go.”
And for the first time in months, Mason knew exactly what he wanted.
Her. Always her.
