George was adjusting his belt in the men's fitting room when a blur dashed past him, snatching his bag. Before he could react, a burly man stormed in, eyes wild.
"Have you seen my wife?" the man barked.
"This is the men's fitting room," George replied, puzzled.
The man hesitated, embarrassment flashing across his face, before retreating.
Determined to retrieve his belongings, George stepped out, scanning the area. But before he could proceed, a hand yanked him into another fitting room.
"Please," a voice whispered urgently, "help me become a man."
George turned to see a young woman, eyes pleading.
"What?" he stammered.
"I need to disappear. Help me."
Without fully understanding why, George nodded. He selected loose, baggy clothes for her, helping her transform her appearance. Together, they slipped out, unaware that the furious husband had hidden himself in the trunk of George's car.
At George's apartment, the woman sat nervously. "I'm Charlotte," she said, voice trembling.
"You're safe here," George assured her.
"I trusted someone once," she murmured, "and became his prisoner."
George handed her his phone. "Call the police if you want. The keys are there; you can leave anytime."
Tears welled in Charlotte's eyes. "For two years, I've lived in darkness, hoping for a glimpse of light."
George stepped out to get coffee, giving her space. When he returned, he found her exploring the apartment, a hint of a smile on her face.
"I didn't know what kind you liked, so I got a variety," he said, holding up the coffee cups.
She chuckled softly. "I don't even know what I like anymore."
As they sipped coffee, the atmosphere warmed. Charlotte's guard began to lower, revealing glimpses of the person she'd been before.
Suddenly, the door burst open. The husband stood there, eyes blazing.
"Charlotte, come home," he demanded.
George stepped between them. "She's staying here."
"Let's ask her," George suggested. "Charlotte, do you want to stay or go?"
Charlotte looked between them, fear evident. "I... I want to go."
George's heart sank as she left with her husband.
Days turned into weeks with no word from Charlotte. George searched, but she had vanished.
Then, one evening, he found a note slipped under his door: "Road Home is set."
Following the clue, George found Charlotte at a secluded cabin. She was thin, eyes hollow.
"You need to eat," he urged.
"I'm not hungry," she whispered.
"I love you, Charlotte. I'll do anything for you."
"No one will ever love you like I do," a voice growled from the shadows.
The husband emerged, rage palpable.
"He's been looking for us," Charlotte said, fear gripping her.
"We have to leave," George said.
"But my whole life is here," she hesitated.
"Sometimes, you have to take the biggest risk to find the greatest love," George said, extending his hand.
Charlotte took a deep breath, then grasped his hand.
Together, they stepped into the unknown, ready to face whatever came next.
