Grace's laughter echoed through the sunlit streets of Karachi as she leaned out of the car's sunroof, her wedding dress billowing in the wind. The city's vibrant energy mirrored her joy.
"Grace, watch out!" her husband shouted, but his warning was lost in the cacophony of honking cars and cheering pedestrians.
Suddenly, strong arms yanked her from the vehicle. She landed hard on the pavement, gasping for air.
"You okay?" a rugged man asked, his eyes scanning her for injuries.
"I... I think so. Thank you," she stammered, trying to steady herself.
But before she could gather her thoughts, he hoisted her over his shoulder.
"Hey! What are you doing?" she screamed, pounding his back.
"Taking you for ransom, city girl," he replied gruffly.
Bound and gagged, Grace found herself in a dimly lit cabin deep in the woods. The scent of pine and damp earth filled her nostrils. Her captor, a man named Rafiq, paced the room, his eyes never leaving her.
"Why are you doing this?" she demanded once the gag was removed.
"Money. Your fancy wedding tells me you're worth a lot," he said, shrugging.
"My husband will come for me," she retorted, trying to mask her fear.
Rafiq smirked. "We'll see."
Days turned into weeks. Grace's initial fear began to wane, replaced by a strange camaraderie. Rafiq, despite his gruff exterior, showed moments of kindness—bringing her favorite foods, sharing stories of his past, and even teaching her how to start a fire.
One evening, as they sat by the fire, Grace asked, "Why did you really take me?"
Rafiq hesitated. "At first, for money. But now... I don't know."
Their eyes met, and in that moment, unspoken feelings surfaced.
Just as Grace began to question her emotions, her husband burst into the cabin, flanked by police. Rafiq was arrested, and Grace was taken home.
Back in the comfort of her home, surrounded by luxury, Grace felt empty. Her husband's concern felt performative, his touch cold.
One night, she confronted him. "Did you even try to find me?"
He looked away. "I assumed you'd come back."
Realization dawned—she had fallen for her captor, a man who showed her genuine care.
