"Jack, hey... honey, is this how you greet your husband?"
Emma's hand trembled as she gripped the doorframe, the weight of Jack's voice heavy in the air. He was back. After all these years, after everything.
“From prison? Haven't you missed me? Let me in… let's have a talk, at good old times," he mocked, his voice eerily calm but filled with venom. Emma’s heart pounded in her chest. She turned to Ryan, her fiancé, fear pooling in her eyes.
"We have to back up. He can’t stay here." Ryan’s voice was low, protective, but Emma’s knees buckled. She wanted to collapse into his arms, but she couldn't. Not with Jack outside, not with the memories of all he had done.

“You don’t know what he did to me!” Emma screamed, her voice cracking with years of pent-up terror. The officer’s words were a blur as she staggered back into the house.
"Ma’am, don’t worry. Every officer in this city is out looking for him. Could he still be around?" Officer Fred’s voice crackled through the radio, but Emma didn’t hear it. She was frozen.
"Fred, are you there?" Ryan asked, his voice tight with fear. The power flickered, then died, leaving them in complete darkness.
“It’s him.”
"No, honey," Emma whispered. "It’s the weather. It was the same yesterday. Please, don’t panic—"
Fred's voice cracked through the radio again. “We’ve lost power. Fred, are you there?"
A chill ran down Emma’s spine. Was it just the wind? Or was Jack truly outside? The silence that followed was unnerving.
“Ryan... stay here,” she begged. But Ryan wasn’t listening. He was already moving, carefully inching toward the door.
The door creaked open.
“Who is it? The police? Did they find him?” Emma’s voice wavered as she stared at Ryan.
“It’s Officer Fred. He needs to use our bathroom. He said there's no one else outside, but he called for help just in case.”
Ryan went to check on Fred, but Emma couldn't shake the feeling that something was terribly wrong. “Don’t go, please!” she pleaded, but Ryan was already out the door.
The sound of the knife’s edge against flesh echoed through the room.
“No... no, no... stay here!” Emma screamed, but it was too late. She ran toward the stairs, heart hammering in her chest.
“Ryan! No!”
The sound of the knife was unmistakable, but what followed was worse.
“It’s over, Emma. You should’ve killed me when you had the chance. Now, I’ll finish what I started.”
Jack’s voice echoed through the empty hall, taunting her. Emma’s breath caught in her throat. She could feel the weight of the years of torment, the years of silence. It had all led to this moment.
“You should have shot me, Jack.”
But Jack didn’t shoot. He came closer. Every step was a reminder of the darkness they had both lived in, the pain he had inflicted.
“Come out, Emma. Let’s end this, once and for all.”
Emma could feel her will breaking. But just as Jack reached out to grab her, the door crashed open.
“Don’t listen to him, Emma! Run!” Ryan’s voice was a lifeline in the chaos.
The battle between the past and present was brutal, but Emma knew one thing—she couldn’t stay trapped in her fear any longer. She was ready to fight, ready to end this nightmare.
“I know you’re here, hiding in the shadows,” Jack sneered. “You can’t hide from me forever, Emma. You’re mine.”
